For many years, songs have been a great way of reminding people of someone who has passed away.
They may have had the song played at their funeral, been the last song that you listened to with that person, a song that was created in memory of that person.

In this thread, you can share with us the songs that mean the most to you when it comes to remembering someone that has passed away and the stories behind these songs

Love this forum, very Interesting stuff. Dad died 7 years ago and loved Annie's song by John Denver, still reminds me of him in his workshop, fixing our broken toys, Bikes etc, great dad and missed out on being a grandfather, miss him terribly, would have cherished a myfarewellnote from him, sadly it wasn't to be, R.I.P. There are so many great songs and stories being posted here that I simply had to share the song that means so much to me. My Wife passed in 2016 after a long battle with a terminal illness which quite honestly left me heartbroken. She was a huge fan of Carrie Underwood and only an hour before she passed, we had her album playing to my Wife in the Hospice that she was in. When the song 'See You Again' came on, my Wife who was now struggling to speak looked at me and said 'Listen'. This was one of the last things that my Wife said to me and this song now means the world to me. I listen to the words which have given me so much support an strength and it will forever remind me of my beautiful Wife. May you RIP Jill and I will always love you xxx

After the post from Kerry Gibson regarding a friend that she lost in the Manchester Arena tragedy I thought that 'Don't Look Back In Anger' by Oasis was a song that deserves a mention. For me this song will now always remind me of the people who's lives were lost in this tragedy and also how the nation fought back when after the minute's silence, a lone person started singing this and everyone at the memorial service then joined in to sing this song together. Watching that sent chills down me but also filled me with huge pride and was an incredibly memorable moment.

A song that some would say sadly means a lot to me is 'The Greatest Man I Never Knew' which was sung by Reba McEntire. I say sadly because the meaning of the song is very similar to my own real life experience whereby my Dad worked away a lot and also spent more time socialising with his mates rather than spending time with my Mum and my Sister and I, and it felt like he totally avoided our childhood.
He passed away when I was just 17 and I have always wished that he had spent more with me, creating childhood memories and at times it feels like I never really had a true Dad.
What this song talks about should also be an inspiration to others, to make sure that we try and put our family first by creating these sort of memories for our Family which is far more important than anything else in life and to do so before it is too late. Life can be cruel and we never know when we will be taken from this world so live life to the fullest and make sure your family understands just how much they really mean to you.
Hope your Myfarewellnote team have a listen to this song, as I think it will mean a lot to you with what it is that you are providing, which in itself is a wonderful idea.

My Son was 27 years old when he was killed in 2005 whilst in the British Army serving out in Iraq. The last correspondence that I received from him was a written letter that arrived to me just 1 week before he was killed and this along with other personal items of his are my prize possessions and things that keep his memory truly alive. Because of this, a song that really does mean so much to me and reminds me of my Son is 'If You're Reading This' by Tim McGraw. Written in the form of a letter sent from a soldier to his family and the song was created as a tribute to the families of soldiers who have died. If you have not heard it before then please take time to have a listen to it and you will see just why it means so much to me. Duncan S

Back in 2012 a really close friend of mine committed suicide. It was something that to this day that I still can't quite get my head around and always ask myself if there were any signs from him that could have made me realise that he needed help or anything that I should have done to try and prevent it. At his funeral he had several songs played that were chosen by his close family but the song that will always remind me of 'Davey' is the really thoughtful and brilliantly written 'WHY' by Rascal Flatts.
If anyone has suffered with losing a friend or family member who has taken their own life, then I am sure that the words to this song will be something that you can really associate with. Incredible song writing and if you have not heard it before, then please do take a listen and you will totally see what I mean. RIP Davey And Miss You Mate

I had been in a relationship since the age of 17 with someone very special to me but after 5 years she decided that she no longer wanted us to be together. To say I was devastated would be an under statement and she completely broke my heart. Even more sadly, 2 months after we broke up and she had moved away, she was involved in a road accident and after a week in hospital, she passed away.
I will be honest, her death along with our break up hit me really hard and to this day, whenever I hear the song "You Said You'd Grow Old With Me" by Michael Schulte, it reminds me so much of her and the things that we had planned to do together in life.
Seriously this is one emotional song and if you have not heard it then have a listen and you will see what just why it means a lot to me.
RIP L x

I know that I have already posted one song but after reading the post just now from R.G. another song that I would like to put on here is I Still Miss You by the brilliant country singer Keith Anderson. Think many people can associate with the words to this song, whether it be a death of someone special or a relationship break up.

A sentimental song that I can really relate to is THE DANCE BY GARTH BROOKS which will always remind me of my Husband who passed away back in 1997.
It was never the easiest of marriages and I had to put up with quite a lot from him including several affairs and his alcoholism which unfortunately in the end was what caused him to pass away. The thing was no matter what he did in the 23 years we were married, he was still my one true love and I always ended up forgiving him. Like the song says, I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

FLY BY CELINE DION
In 2001 my God Daughter Lucy passed away aged only 9 years following a car accident. My best friend and her Mum chose this song to be played at her funeral service. It really was the most fitting song possible and a real tribute to this gorgeous young girl who had so much life ahead of her.
We are both very fond of Celine Dion and actually saw her live in Glasgow in August 2017, but this song in particular will always mean so much to us.
RIP Lucy and heaven gained another Angel when they took you from us x
