For many years, songs have been a great way of reminding people of someone who has passed away.
They may have had the song played at their funeral, been the last song that you listened to with that person, a song that was created in memory of that person.

In this thread, you can share with us the songs that mean the most to you when it comes to remembering someone that has passed away and the stories behind these songs

The song LEAVE OUT ALL THE REST by LINKIN PARK will forever remind me of my good mate Mickey who tragically took his own life in 2010. We were mates through High School and massive fans of Linkin Park, getting to see them live at the Milton Keynes Bowl in 2008 and what a day that was!
Mickey would be the first to admit that he wasn't to everyone's liking and certainly upset a few people over the years but he never did me any wrong and whenever I hear this song and listen to the lyrics, it seems like it could be written about him. On the day of his funeral I played it in our local pub in tribute to him and have done this every year since on the anniversary of his death.
Of course this song then sadly took on extra meaning to every fan of Linkin Park when we lost the total legend Chester Bennington in 2017.
If you are reading this Mickey, I hope that you are behaving yourself up there matey and not upsetting too many people, also hope you have managed to catch up with Chester and told him what a legend he is.
Miss you so much matey

I can't listen to You're Beautiful by James Blunt without getting very emotional. It's the song I played for my late wife. Miss her so much and so wish this app had been around then

With me being a huge fan of Linkin Park, I loved reading the post from Darren so thanks for posting although it did bring tears to my eyes.
For me, the Linkin Park song that makes me always cry is 'One More Light' and this song means so much to anyone who loves this amazing group and in particular like me, completely adored Chester Bennington.
If you have not heard this song then take a few minutes of your time to listen to the powerful lyrics and you will soon realise why it means so much to me and other fans.
It will be a year ago on July 20th that we lost this total music legend but with such a great musical legacy that he has left us all, he will always live on with his extremely influential music.
RIP Chester Bennington March 20th 1976 – July 20 2017

I think we can all associate with the songs that have been posted on here and understand for many reasons why they will remind you of someone close that you have lost.
The song that always causes me to get emotional is Please Remember by the wonderful LeAnn Rimes which was played at the funeral of my dear friend Angie who passed away in 2005 from Cancer.
The funeral service was emotional enough but once this song was played right at the end, there was not a dry eye in the church. I knew that Angie was a big fan of LeAnn Rimes but none of us other than her Husband Pete, had any idea that this was going to be played so it came as quite shock.
If you have not heard the song, then please take a moment to listen to the words and you will see just why it had everyone including me in tears.
RIP Angie love and you know I will always remember you

I have been a huge fan of Mariah Carey ever since see hit the music scene in the mid 90's and the song that will always mean so much to me and forever remind me of my late Father is her song 'Bye Bye'
My Father sadly passed away in December 2008, 9 months after this song was released and I am quite sure that if anyone knows this song, will know just why the words to it mean so much to me and others who have sadly lost one of their parents.
Also finally after years of wanting to see Mariah performing live, I have managed to get tickets to see her at the o2 Arena on December 11th which is strangely enough 10 years to the day that my Father passed away. It will be an extremely emotional night should she perform this song, but if she doesn't, I will still be thinking of him. Melanie x

2 months ago a close friend of mine sadly lost his Wife to a long term illness. She was a lovely woman who always had time to help others including doing lots of work for many charities. She was also a huge fan of Robbie Williams and we always use to joke that she was only with my friend because he looked like Robbie!
The funeral service was as you can imagine a very emotional affair throughout and most of the congregation broke down in tears when my friend was reading out a eulogy of his Wife. He spoke about all the support that she had given to many people including the support that she had given him through some dark times in his life and he then referred to her as always being his 'Angel'.
He ended by revealing how her favourite song was in fact Angels by Robbie Williams and asked everyone to take a few minutes to listen to the song and to remember how much of an 'Angel' his Wife was to so many people. By the end of the song, I don't think there was a dry eye in the church and this song was a really fitting tribute to a very special lady and it will now forever remind me of her as it will do with most of the funeral congregation.

My Mum sadly passed away back in 2008 and even now a day does not go by without me thinking about her and how much of a wonderful woman she truly was.
With me being a huge fan of The Corrs, the one song that really means so much to me and will forever remind me of my Mum, is a song by them called ' Angel '.
I understand that the song was written as a tribute to their own Mum who they lost in 1999 and I am sure that many people will also listen to this song as a reminder of a family member that they have sadly lost. Christina K

Surprised that nobody on here has already mentioned HURT by Christina Aguilera.
My Dad split from my Mum when I was only 8 years old and my Brother was only 10. Without going into huge details, the relationship between my parents was seemingly a very difficult one and when they split up, my Dad moved away which initially meant that we saw him every few months. As time went on this got less and less and by the time I was 10 years old, he was virtually out of our lives.
5 months ago I found out via a distant family member on his side that he had in fact died. This came as a complete shock as I was now making plans to try and get in contact with him and get the answers to the many questions that I had for him.
The words in this song will sadly always be a reminder of my Dad, the man that I never really knew and a man that I so wished I could have had some answers from

One of my closest mates Danny was tragically killed in a car accident. Nobody would deny that Danny was a bit of a jack the lad but he would also do so much for people including raising money for charities by taking part in various events. He also loved his fast cars and because of this, it is no surprise that he loved all the Fast And Furious films. With his family in agreement, we arranged for the song See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth to be played at his funeral.
Everyone who really knew Danny, knew how much of a tribute this was to him and a song that whenever I hear it now, will always remind me of Danny and how much I miss having him around in my life. RIP Buddy

Hearing the news regarding the new Mary Poppins film made me smile and I just wish my Mum was still was alive to be able to see this modern version and give her views on it.
She loved the original version and as a child I was brought up being taught all the songs by my Mum who also performed in an amateur stage version of the show and actually played the role of the fantastic Julie Andrews.
Because of this, any reference to this great film will always remind me of my Mum but in particular her favourite song from it "A Spoonful of Sugar" will always be my Mum's song as far as I am concerned.
