For many years, songs have been a great way of reminding people of someone who has passed away.
They may have had the song played at their funeral, been the last song that you listened to with that person, a song that was created in memory of that person.

In this thread, you can share with us the songs that mean the most to you when it comes to remembering someone that has passed away and the stories behind these songs

I was told about your site by my daughter who said that I should post on here, so here I am.

I have a song that will always remind me of my Husband Chris who sadly left this world in 2014.

This song was one that we both loved when we first met in Jan 1982, then spent many a great time together over the years singing and dancing along to it including at our wedding reception, much to the amusement of all our guests who left the dance floor for us to have our special moment on our own.
This song was quite simply our song and it seemed only right to also play it at my Husband's funeral service as we gave him the best send off possible.
The song I am referring to is "Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode and if you know this song, then you will also know the lyrics and understand why we both loved it so much.
We simply couldn't get enough of each other and not a day goes by when I do not stop and think about Chris

The summer of 95 was a great time for me and my group of old school mates as we had all turned 18 and were enjoying life to the max. The only care we had in the world was making sure that we had enough money to go out every weekend and we were all really close mates. We were all well into the BritPop scene and my best mate Jamie would bowl around thinking he was Liam Gallagher which when I look back on it still makes me laugh as we ended up just calling him 'Liam' most of the time.
Sadly in January 1996, Jamie was involved in a road traffic accident which caused him to fall into a coma and he sadly never recovered. We would often visit Jamie in the hospital, tell him what we had all been up to and play to him all the songs that we knew he loved.
One of his favourite songs was 'Alright' by Supergrass and to our group it was like our unofficial anthem which even now always reminds me of Jamie and our fun times together.
RIP Jamie aka Liam from all the Slough boys

Thanks to Chris H at Myfarewellnote for your reply to my original post.
Thrilled to hear that my post about Jenny has received such positive responses from followers of Take That and please do thank the follower who recommended that I listen to the new version of Pray.
I am sure that Jenny would have her own opinion on this version (a positive one I am sure) but I have to admit that I really do like it. My Wife is also a Take That fan and is now talking about trying to get tickets for one of their concerts in 2019 so we will hopefully get to hear them perform this song live.
Thanks again to Myfarewellnote and wishing you all the best, Darren

On October 10th it will be 9 years since the passing of Boyzone member Stephen Gately.
Right from the start I had always loved Boyzone and I particularly liked Stephen, loving his voice along with that gorgeous smile of his. My son Mark was 19 at the this time and had an uncanny resemblance to Stephen and use to joke and say that a woman of my age should not be so into a boy band.
2 days before Stephen's funeral, Mark was seriously hurt after being involved in a motorbike accident and for several days we were unsure whether or not he would recover.
I was sat at Mark's hospital bedside when footage of Stephen's funeral came on the tv and I heard that Ronan Keating and Boyzone had sung In This Life as a tribute to Stephen.
It was a song that I knew the words to very well, the perfect tribute to Stephen and by now I had tears rolling down my eyes as I looked at Mark.
Thankfully Mark made a full recovery in the end but this song, which I have listened to and seen performed many times since will always remind me of Stephen and also how very close I was to losing my Son Mark.
RIP Stephen Gately 17 March 1976 – 10 October 2009

I attended the funeral of a dear friend. The church was packed. So many people came to celebrate his life because he had such a wonderful, positive outlook on life. The eulogy was a real eye-opener about what he had done with his life and his contribution to the film industry. As we left the church the entire congregation sang along to 'Always Look On The Bright Side of Life'. There were tears and smiles and although it was sad that he passed this was such a fitting way to see him off. That song epitomised his life and will now always remind me of this great man.

Sadly my gramps passed away last year. He was ill for a long while. I miss him every single day but the fact he is no longer in any pain is a little comfort. His life was rich and he loved travelling. The song that reminds me of him is 'Life' by Des'ree. I cry every time I hear it. Tears of joy though because I see his laughing face.

If You Could See Me Now by The Script - I know this song was written as a tribute to the Dad of Danny O'Donoghue and parents of Mark Sheehan but for me it will always be a reminder of my Mum who passed away in 2007.
The words to the song are exactly how I feel where I so wish that she was still around to see me now, just so I could know if she was pleased and proud of the decisions that I have made in life since her passing. It is amazing how we take life for granted at times and just being able to ask my Mum for some simple advice is something that even now I so miss about her and
I am sure many people who have gone through a similar loss and know this song will completely understand what I mean.

The one song that always reminds me of my dear friend Lucy is 'Goodbye' from The Spice Girls.
Lucy and I were 10 years old when we became friends in school back in 1997 when we were both big fans of The Spice Girls and the whole 'Girl Power' thing and our friendship remained very close even after leaving school. Sadly though in 2014 Lucy passed away from pancreatic cancer.
Because she loved music and karaoke so much, we held a memorial night at our local social club where family and friends could choose a song to sing in honour of her. I knew how much she loved this song and the words for me seemed like a fitting tribute to my great friend and will forever remind me of Lucy and the great times that we shared together.
"Goodbye my friend I know you're gone, you said you're gone, But I can still feel you here"

Together Again by Janet Jackson - This song will forever remind me of my beautiful and loving wife Linda who sadly passed away in 2001. Having both been brought up as kids listening to The Jacksons, Linda and I had a common interest when we first met as we both loved listening to Michael and Janet Jackson and this particular song was one that I always said would be my dedicated song to Linda should she pass away before me. Therefore even now whenever I play this song I think of Linda and all the amazing times that we spent together.

'What I'd give just to hold you close
As on earth
In heaven we will be together baby
Together again my baby'

RIP Baby x

My close friend 'S' and I grew up as big fans of One Direction and in particular were well into Harry Styles. I ended up seeing less of her as I moved away to University but we still messaged each other and met up when we could. 'S' unfortunately went through a lot of personal problems in life and in May 2017, she sadly took her own life.
The last time I saw her was 2 weeks before when we both spent time listening to the then recently released Harry Styles song 'Sign Of The Times'. It is a very powerful song anyway but since her death it really has so much meaning to me and whenever I listen to it, it reminds me of 'S' and in particular these words from the song
"Remember, everything will be alright, We can meet again somewhere, Somewhere far away from here"
